Bob Setzer, Jr.
PASTOR
My wife, Bambi, daughter, Whitney, and I moved to Macon in 1996. For all of us, it turned out to be the best move of our lives. We quickly fell in love with Macon in general and the good people of the First Baptist Church of Christ in particular. What began as an unexpected call soon became a rich and rewarding life. I am a pastor who loves his work. Sometimes it seems such pastors are a vanishing breed but I think I have the best job in the world. I get paid for studying the Bible, preaching the Word, and loving people. What’s not to like? I do most of my praying while literally on the run, jogging 3 miles 4 or 5 days a week. Occasionally, I take a peek at the heavens through my telescope. But mostly, I just keep chasing after Jesus and being surprised at all the strange and wonderful people he places in my path. Jody Long
YOUTH & OUTREACH
Welcome! I’m Jody Long, the Minister of Youth and Outreach at the First Baptist Church of Church at Macon. My title doesn’t tell the whole story about me, though. I also work with College Students, Young Adults and have several Administrative duties. I came to FBC in January 2004 before I finished seminary at the McAfee School of Theology. I find most of my ministerial joy watching students “get it”- the intersection of faith and understanding. When I’m not at church I enjoy running (although I’m not very fast!), reading (although I don’t get to read enough), watching and playing sports, and spending time with my wife, Julie, and our “child” – Harry, the world’s cutest and best basset hound! Julie Long
CHILDREN & FAMILIES
Hi! I’m Julie Long, Minister of Children and Families at First Baptist Church of Christ. I first stumbled into First Baptist as a Mercer University freshman in 1998. As I worshipped here and volunteered in the children’s ministry, I was drawn in by this church’s obvious love and care for its children. So, in 2004 when I had the opportunity to come back upon my graduation from the McAfee School of Theology, I jumped at the chance. When I’m not at church, I enjoy reading good books, playing tennis, watching West Wing reruns, and spending time with my husband, Jody, and our basset hound, Harry. (juliewlong@gmail.com)
Sarah Hedgis
YOUTH INTERN
My name is Sarah Hedgis, and I am currently serving as the intern to the Minister of Youth and Outreach. I am a senior at Mercer University, and I am majoring in Christianity and Women and Gender Studies. This is actually my second internship with FBC Macon. I worked with Julie as the intern for the Children and Families Ministry in the summer of 2007. I became a member of FBC Macon in November of this year. FBC has been a wonderful place to form a community as a college student. I have made wonderful friends and received constant challenge and encouragement as I continue to develop my identity as a Christian. It is also a great place to have a lot of fun! My favorite memory so far has been Pig Pen 2008! All of the youth (and myself) got to have a HUGE food fight in an open field that included ketchup, rotten fruit, cocoa powder, baked beans, and much more! I am so thankful for the home I have found with First Baptist Church of Christ in Macon. When I am not at FBC, I can be found reading, exploring Macon’s ever-growing downtown, or enjoying pimento cheese sandwiches in Mercer’s Fresh Food Company. (sarah.emily.hedgis@student.mercer.edu)

Hi, I am Pam Pilcher, Administrative Assistant at First Baptist. In 2002, I decided to retire early after a 30 year career of serving as Administrative Assistant on church staffs of various denominations. In October of 2006 I returned to the church staff world as a permanent part-time staff person. I have been married to Bill Pilcher for 38 years, and we have one daughter, Paige. She is married to Ben Alford, and they have blessed us with a precious granddaughter, Anna Kate, who is 8 years old, in the 3rd grade, and is Poppy & Gigi’s Angel. We are active members of Martha Bowman Memorial UMC, where I serve as Wedding Coordinator. I enjoy spending time with my family and spoiling them! (fbc@fbcmacon.org)
