Children and Worship

Children at First Baptist are full participants in worship and in the life of the church.  Children regularly participate in worship services as acolytes, scripture readers, ushers, and in children’s choirs.  A children’s sermon each week also allows for children to learn Bible stories and teachings in an age-appropriate way.   Our annual child-led worship service allows children to take leadership in various ways.  We believe that children learn reverence and respect for worship best through experience!   

Working on Worship (W.O.W.)

W.O.W. (Working on Worship) is a worship training experience for preschoolers each Sunday morning during the 11 a.m. worship service.  Preschoolers attend worship with their families for the first part of the 

service.  Following the children’s sermon, preschoolers age 3-kindergarten exit to W.O.W. in the preschool area.

W.O.W. teaches our preschool worshippers sanctuary worship practices and behaviors.  A worship leader chimes the hour and leads worshippers in singing the “Gloria Patri” and the “Doxology.”  They practice prayer, singing, and offering and learn appropriate worship behavior.   

By familiarizing even our youngest worshippers with worship skills, we hope to instill in them a passion and preparedness for congregational worship.  Our goal is to help our little ones feel that they are participants, not just spectators, in worship.  We want to teach them the importance of setting up a special time and place to give God our best in prayers, songs, thanksgiving and praise.
